Inclusion criteria

BrightMind offers ADHD assessment by secure video only.

Free triage considers suitability; it does not guarantee an assessment or a diagnosis.

  • Adults may seek their own assessment. A parent or person with parental responsibility may seek assessment for a child or young person. Professionals need the relevant permission and authority.
  • Concerns about attention, activity or impulsivity and their effect on everyday functioning are considered alongside history and alternative explanations.
  • Confidential video assessment needs suitable technology and privacy, or reasonable adjustments that make the format workable.
  • Relevant consent or authority is needed. Developmental, educational or other information may be sought where clinically appropriate. Missing old records alone does not exclude a referral.
  • A clinician reviews whether virtual assessment is safe and appropriate. Urgent or more complex needs may require another service; coexisting conditions do not automatically exclude someone.

Exclusions from our service scope

The following needs are outside this assessment service.

  • Emergency help, crisis care or an immediate response to a safeguarding concern.
  • An assessment or intervention outside the current ADHD assessment service.

When assessment may need to wait or another service may be needed

Suitability is an individual clinical decision. Assessment may need to be deferred or a different service considered when:

  • Valid consent or the authority to refer and share information cannot be established.
  • A clinician identifies a safety concern or a need for care that this assessment service cannot provide.
  • A confidential, clinically useful video assessment cannot be arranged, even after considering reasonable adjustments.
  • Further information or specialist input is needed before suitability can be decided.

Individual needs and reasonable adjustments

A disability, communication difference, trauma history or coexisting condition should prompt an individual discussion about needs and adjustments, rather than an assumption that assessment is impossible. Missing records or an informant do not, by themselves, decide suitability.

The suitability discussion considers communication preferences, clear written information, breaks, pacing, sensory needs and appropriate support from someone you trust. Discuss the adjustments you need before your assessment.

If this service is not suitable

If the service is not suitable, the clinical review should explain why, whether a later review could help, and appropriate onward options. Referral to another service does not guarantee that it can accept you.
