Common questions

Are assessments online or face to face?

BrightMind offers ADHD assessment by secure video only.

Can I submit a referral now?

Referrals are currently closed. Please use the guidance below to understand the pathway.

What does an assessment cost?

Adult assessment: £700. Child and young person assessment: £950. See the Fees page for inclusions and terms.

What ages does the child pathway cover?

The child and young person pathway is for ages 7 to 18.

Do I need old school reports or an informant?

Supporting information can be useful. Missing old school reports or an informant does not, by itself, settle whether an assessment is possible. A clinician would consider the available evidence and any gaps.

Does an assessment guarantee an ADHD diagnosis?

No. The outcome may be ADHD diagnosed, criteria not met, or a decision deferred while more information is gathered. Questionnaires alone cannot establish a diagnosis.

How long will the assessment and report take?

BrightMind contacts the referrer for triage or next steps within 48 hours of a submitted referral. Saving a draft does not start this clock. The target is an actual assessment appointment in under 48 hours once triage and required assessment information are complete and payment is confirmed. A suitable provisional slot is offered before payment. If the target cannot be met, the actual next available date is shown before payment so you can decide whether to proceed. A provisional slot is not a confirmed booking. Ask about appointment length and report timing when discussing your assessment.

What happens after the assessment?

The assessment pathway includes a report, recommendations and discussion of next steps. Sharing with a GP, school or another professional needs the appropriate authority and privacy arrangements.

What documents do you need to sign up?

For verification, bring one proof of identity (a valid passport, UK or EU photocard driving licence, or national ID card) and one proof of address dated within the last three months (a utility bill, bank or building society statement, council tax bill, or tenancy agreement). A parent or person with parental responsibility referring a child should also expect to confirm their relationship to the child. Exact requirements will be confirmed with you when your referral is reviewed.

Can I get medication through BrightMind?

No. Speak with your GP or prescriber about medication options; this service does not arrange or manage medication.

Can the website help in a crisis?

BrightMind is not an emergency service. In immediate danger call 999. For urgent help in England, contact NHS 111, your GP or your local crisis service. Do not wait for a website response.
